UFPA
In a series of roundtables in 2009 and 2010, industry, government, and non-profit leaders came together around a common vision:
putting all wood from urban trees to good use. These leaders and experts from a variety of disciplines, including forestry, tree care, wood processing, and green building, formed the Urban Forest Products Alliance (UFPA) with the mission of advancing the sustainable recovery and the highest and best use of the products of urban forests.
The Alliance operates under the following basic beliefs:
- Urban trees have their highest value while living. When they come down, urban trees should be put to their highest and best uses to maximize their economic, environmental, and societal benefits for people in urban areas and beyond.
- Sustainable recovery and the highest and best use of urban forest products are essential components of sustainable urban forestry.
- Increasing end user demand for urban forest products is key toward increasing demand all along the wood use chain and producing benefits throughout the forest sector.
- We can more effectively achieve our mission through formal collaboration and information sharing.
- We work in partnership with the full diversity of stakeholders that share our vision and mission.
